Course description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Are you interested in recording your own music? Do you want to know what kind of equipment you need to make recordings? And do you want to learn how to place microphones on different instruments to achieve the desired outcome when recording?

Apply to the ‘Introduction to Recording’ course! The purpose of the course is to demonstrate in a practical fashion how and with what equipment to best record different instruments. The course will cover, among other things, space and acoustics, different kinds of microphones and couplings, listening, and file management. The content focuses particularly on recording the typical instruments used in bands, such as drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, and vocals. The instructor of the course will be sound professional Arttu Volanto, who has nearly 20 years of experience in recording.

Objectives

The course objective is that participants understand how to prepare for a recording session, what equipment they should have, and what issues they should focus on to reach the desired results when recording. The course includes assignments related to mixing, which will be run over together with the course instructor.

Course delivery

Anyone who lives in Southern Ostrobothnia and is interested in recording music can apply – no prior education is required. The content is particularly aimed at people who create music, and are interested in or already working in the music industry.

The course consists of video material for independent study, as well as scheduled Zoom meetings in which students can discuss course topics directly with the instructor. The study material will be published on Rhythm Academy’s online platform at www.rytmiakatemia.fi.

The course is free of charge in the pilot phase, and is primarily aimed at people living in Southern Ostrobothnia. As this course is a part of a project funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), participants are required to fill in monitoring information and feedback forms related to ESF projects.

How to apply

Register on the Rhythm Academy website. Once you are logged in, fill in the application form by clicking on the ‘Submit application’ button on the selected course description page. Selection criteria
