Kurssin kuvaus

Apply to Rhythm Academy’s ‘Sound Design’ course! The course will introduce you to sound design from the viewpoint of digital music production. Topics to be covered include using basic functions of synthesizers to create sounds, creating effects, mixing, and taking frequency ranges and stereo image into account when creating a soundscape. The use of completely new sound material will also be discussed: how to record material in nature and import it to a digital environment for editing, as well as how to create songs first with demo sounds and then switch them to the best possible sound options.

Instructors

The main instructor and Zoom-meeting host will be Toni Kurkimäki. With a 30-year career as a DJ, Toni ‘DJ Tony’ Kurkimäki is an expert in electronic music, having started making music in the early 1990s with an Amiga computer and a sampler. His best-known music project, Syna, has achieved international renown in electronic music circles. Besides his active career creating music, he also works as a radio journalist.

In addition to Kurkimäki, experts Jarkko Ripsomaa and Tommi Lindell will voice their thoughts and experience on sound design in the course material. Jarkko Ripsomaa is a composer-producer and ‘synth wizard’, who has over 20 years of experience in producing electronic music. Ripsomaa is also an artist in the band Aurium, and has created music for many ensembles, such as Poju, Hausmylly and Sandman.

Tommi Lindell is a musician and composer from Helsinki, who has worked in various roles in Finnish music. He has experience from playing and ‘electronic wizarding’ in numerous bands and record productions (for instance RinneRadio, Raptori, Neljä Ruusua, Tommi Läntinen, Sami Saari), as well as for TV shows, theatres, and modern circus performances. Lindell has published his own music under the names Lindelltronics, Lindellandia and LNDL, among others.
